At Golden Bay High School students prepare for the future by learning skills and knowledge, and developing the personal resources that are needed to live satisfying, balanced and responsible lives.
We cater for all students, whatever their needs. Part of our philosophy is to take into account the interests and abilities of each student. We devise individual programmes to support maximum learning where necessary. Please contact us if you need any further assistance - we would love to hear from you. Ake Ake Kia Kaha. 12 April 2024 - From the Principal, Jono Hay
Tēnā koutou katoa, Term 1 - 2024 Term 1 is coming to an end and it has flown by. This has been my first term at Te Waka Kura o Mohua and I am very thankful to everyone in our school community for making me feel so welcome. We have wonderful students, amazing teachers and a very supportive school and local community. While it is always important to review, evaluate and work towards continuous improvement, it is equally important to pause, take a step back and appreciate what we have. Term 1 has illustrated the many and varied opportunities that our students get. This ranges from Swimming Sports and Athletics Day through to music tuition, opportunities in the arts, a wide variety of sporting codes, adventure racing, outdoor activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding, leadership courses, chess and many others. These are on top of our core business - learning and academic achievement. We are privileged to be in this great school with some beautiful new buildings and surrounded by supportive and talented individuals. If you get a moment in the holiday break, please take time to reflect on all of the things that make Mohua and our school community so special. Drop in sessions If there is anything about school that you would like to discuss, or even if you would simply like to meet in person, drop in sessions to meet with myself will be available every Tuesday from 5-6pm during term time through to the end of term 2. There is no need to book; please feel free to come to the front office and say hello. Values - Manaakitanga Te Waka Kura o Mohua has four values. These are whanaungatanga, wairuatanga, kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga. Manaakitanga is the focus for this Goldie. Manaakitanga provides us with endless opportunities to engage with people, individually and collectively, in a way that enhances each other’s mana. Manaakitanga is about extending love and compassion to others. It is shown through hospitality, kindness, generosity and support - the process of showing respect, generosity and care for others. In terms of the school and how we operate, we support our students to ensure that all of our activities are conducted in a way that demonstrates manaaki and reflects values such as generosity, fairness, respect and consideration. Our ongoing focus is to support manaakitanga and as a result, a school culture that is mana enhancing for all members of our school community. Ake ake kia kaha Jono Hay |

At their first meeting in 2024 the Board welcomed Jono Hay, the new Tumuaki in our midst. We are pleased to hear that after an impressive powhiri, he experienced a warm welcome from students, staff and whānau and has literally hit the ground running. The Board values his fresh pair of eyes looking at our policies and procedures and his considerate approach. With students and staff refreshed after the long break and the new buildings now in use, there seems to be new energy flowing through the school. We are very hopeful that the interruptions the existing building sites still pose will soon be gone. Best wishes to all students and staff for their 2024 learning journey at Te Waka Kura ō Mohua.
